Joy Harris and Marion Barrie had contacted us separately when they heard that other ex-pats were getting in touch to tell their stories. After running their fascinating stories about life in Australia, Joy realised that Marion was almost on her doorstep and decided to get in touch. With a little help from Marion's friend Pat Smith, who still lives in the city, the pair were able to make contact, and have since become firm friends. Joy said: "My story of life in Australia was forwarded to Marion in Kellyville, NSW, by her friend Pat, thus promoting her to write her story. I was intrigued - having lived in Australia for 21 years, I have never met anyone living here who is from Norwich. Kellyville is only a couple of miles away, so I decided to track her down." Marion made the big decision to move Down Under in 1972 and became an Australian citizen in 1997. Her friend Pat told her of Joy's appearance in The Advertiser, and once Joy discovered that Marion had followed suit, they got in touch. Joy added: "With the aid of the telephone directory, I gave Marion a call. After much laughter and chatting we decided to meet at Castle Hill for a coffee.  "We had a great time - lots of laughter, talking and reminiscing of life in Norwich. Her accent is different to mine, she is originally from Arbroath, Scotland, but I can forgive that! "We plan to meet again next time with our husbands Alan and Dave. I owe a big thank you to my mother Gwen Riley and Marion's friend Pat for reading The Advertiser and making all this possible."
