Resolutions and radio
Happy new year! 2009 is almost a week old, and so far I've managed to achieve very little. The new year's resolutions are clearly going well…
A quiet new year was spent proudly listening to hubby's radio show on Future Radio, which finished with Orbital's Chime at the stroke of midnight. And with Big Ben in the background, it was a brilliant idea, and a great way to start a new year.
We toasted 2009 with a new bottle of Schnapps brought back from our visit to Austria in May. And while I enjoyed the previous bottle we had, this apple-flavoured one tasted more like pencil shavings. Bleugh.
Unlike most people, I'm optimistic that this year has got to be better than the last one. Surely it does - I mean, it couldn't get any worse. I'm mighty glad to see the back of miserable 2008, a year that did me relatively few favours and gave me more than my fair share of misery.
But enough of that, it's time to wipe the slate clean, be grateful that I survived it, and look forward to not having quite so much to worry about. Hopefully. Touch wood.
And talking of hubby's Mainstream and Leftfield radio show, (plug plug!) I was asked to step in for his co-host Simon, who needed a bit of time off. In a previous post just before Christmas, I mentioned that there was a possibility of me being asked to stand in for him, and how I was excited and nervous in equal measures.
Well, I was still just as excited and nervous - if not more so - as the microphone bore down on me on Monday night. Because Mainstream and Leftfield is a late night/early morning show, going out at 1am, it's pre-recorded, so at least I didn't have to deal with the added pressure of doing it live, unlike the rock show guys who were about to take to the air as we finished recording.
But once I settled in, I really loved it - it was awesome! I seem to remember laughing a lot, even at silly things, so I hope I don't come across as some kind of laughing buffoon. We played a game of 'Where's Simon' and played some great music (with me taking over Simon's mainstream approach), and I had an awesome time. In fact, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Simon wants to take another week off so I can do it again!
You can hear the bizarre results on Future Radio (96.9) on Tuesday at 1am. If you dare.
In other exciting news, my best friend gave birth to a baby girl three days before Christmas …..aaaaaaah! The new arrival is settling in well, and when hubby and I finally got to meet her and give her lots of cuddly cuddles, we were very honoured to be asked to be her Godparents. Welcome to the world, my lovely little God-daughter.
